Case Study
MND
In 2015 MND New Zealand contacted Gails advertising agency - Hound and Steed, to discuss how to increase their profile, donor and sponsor activity and most importantly raise the funds they needed to support their ongoing work.
This profoundly debilitating disease results in progressive muscle wasting and weakness due to deterioration of nerve supply to the muscles used for swallowing, chewing, tongue movement, facial expression, breathing, coughing, and limb movement.
The plight of those afflicted by this disease touched our hearts and we jumped at the chance to take the organisation to the next level of capability. From website redesign, to creating a national advertising campaign - which included a broad range of media including nationally syndicated television commercials, to print and online - we did not only the creative content but also worked with media suppliers to gain their support.
At that stage the organisation held an annual event - a series of public walks held throughout towns and cities across New Zealand, over one weekend. As a community event these ‘walks’ were an opportunity for stakeholder groups to come together and show their support for MND New Zealand. However the impact on fundraising was far less than was required to make a real difference in the lives of those suffering from this life changing condition.
Not only did the many years of annual marketing campaigns result in huge donor and supporter activity, but the enhanced public awareness of the disease built a strong foundation for ongoing support.
